Union of Catholic Mothers
St Luke's UCM was founded on 9th April 1948Betty Brierley joined in 1952 and was President from 1987 to 2001 when Pat Ellicott took over as President. In 2001 Betty was awarded the Bene Merente from the Pope for services to the Church and the UCM.
The UCM supports different charities each year. In 2003 they gave £500 to the Drop in Centre at Salford Cathedral towards an oven. In 2004 they contributed to a Hydrotherapy Pool at St Joseph's retreat Centre at Freshfield where there is a home for the disabled. In 2005 through CAFOD paid for 2 cows and 2 water pumps in Africa.
This year they are supporting one of Father Joseph's projects in India, Gypsy families. The Salesians are providing homes and work for them and educating the children.
In April this year there was an enrolment Mass for 5 new members and 4 members returned after many years absence.
